Official Supporter: King's Recreation Centre

I am incredibly fortunate to call Canterbury home. It is a wonderful City that has welcomed me with open arms and there really are too many people and businesses to thank for their generosity and support over the years. But, there is one key Canterbury business that has been a wonderful support to me and that is King’s School Recreation Centre

The centre is amazing. They were not fazed to see a double above-knee amputee enter their facility, instead they were extremely hospitable and willing to help me train and maintain the necessary fitness levels I need to enable me to summit Everest.

As an adventurer and mountaineer with no legs, my upper body needs to be extra strong to help compensate. When I am climbing I use my arms to pull me up the mountain and over areas too difficult for me to walk using my prosthetic legs. To prepare for my Everest expedition in May, I work out daily at the gym doing several hours of cardio, weights and swimming.

They are gruelling sessions that push me physically, but they are worth it. Afterwards my adrenalin is pumping, there are higher levels of dopamine circulating in my body and I am rewarded with that ecstatic feeling of joy.

The King’s School Recreation Centre support has helped me on so many levels. They have promoted my story, given me wonderful training opportunities and financially supported towards my upcoming expedition. I really am so thankful to them for everything they have done and continue to do for me and I am proud to call them one of my partners of Conquering Dreams.
